Impulse Response, 1971 Ampeg B15 Cab, Beyer M88
I’ve noticed a striking consistency with my favorite session guitarists and bassist that matches my real world experience performing and recording over the last 25 years.
They/I use mostly one, favorite, speaker cabinet, mic’d in the best sounding way.
I’ve used this Ampeg B15 cabinet on close to a thousand performances, and hundreds of recording sessions. Mostly with the Beyer M88, which after extensive microphone comparison, has always been my favorite bass cabinet microphone.
This impulse response is the sound I’ve been listening to since I got the amp 20 years ago, and I haven’t found another bass impulse responses that feel like home to me.
Be creative with your mind, hands, amps, and pedals, but let the speaker/microphone be a fixed and predictable canvas to paint onto.
